| A former military reservation, this beautiful park has more than 1.5 miles of beaches on the Gulf of Mexico and Grand Lagoon. Take the kids to the "kiddie pool" by the jetties, or let them splash in the quiet waters of Grand Lagoon. Surf along the jetties on the gulf side of the park. Sunbathe, gather shells and sand dollars. Enjoy a picnic lunch under a pavilion gulf-side or in the playground tables off the lagoon. Other activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, canoeing, bird-watching, hiking and camping. Two fishing piers, a jetty and a boat ramp provide ample fishing opportunities - just watch out that the pelicans don't steal your catch. Two nature trails wind through diverse coastal plant communities, and boardwalks provide overlooks of Alligator Lake and Buttonbush Marsh. Campsites are available for tents, trailers and RVs, as well as primitive youth group camping. Concessions offer snacks, souvenirs and gear for your fishing needs. Regular ferries leave for Shell Island daily during the spring and summer.Hours: 8 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year.
Admission: $8 per vehicle; limit 2-8 people per vehicle. $4 Single Occupant Vehicle. $2 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass. Bus Tour Admission for 1 to 29 passengers is $2 per passenger; 30 or more passengers is $60 total. Boat Launch & Entrance Fees: $12 for one person with a boat; $16 for 2-8 people with a boat. Camping Fee: $28 per night, plus tax. Includes water and electricity. |
